In June Friends of Kerr Layen started a wider project around the village of Kerr Layen Central Region of the Gambia. The area is one of the poorest in Africa with long term subsistence farming and significant food poverty. We looked for a long term manageable project that could be undertaken in partnership with the village of Kerr Layen. After negotiation Friend rented five hectares of land at Kerr Layen and researched the planting of Cashew Trees to provide Labour and Income to the village. Cashew is a very fast maturing tree and in numbers can provide a big income to the community in just 3/4 years after planting.

Currently there are 500 plus young trees ready to go "in the ground" at Kerr Layen the moment we have fully funded nearly 1km of fencing to surround this first plantation and make it secure and safe from animal activity! We need to raise £5,000 to complete this first year project and get the trees in by March 1st 2022. So if you would like to help let us know at kerrlayen@gmail.com

TOGETHER we can make things happen at change outcomes for people AND the Planet. Reforestation is a big player in combating climate change.
