Well we are well into the new year. things moving on the fencing front at the Cashew Plantation site at Kerr Layen. First the plants are doing really well, hundreds of them.

we have an army of young people all willing to invest in their futures and that of the planet by looking after and watering the trees. planting five hundred trees will make a big impact on employment, income and the dreams of the young for a better future. Here is one of the trees being tended with love! the tree is just a few months old.

Fencing moves forward we discovered that we needed to fence five hectares of plantation to protect the trees going forward. that is nearly one mile! We are posting around the site some 600 timber posts. These are really expensive in Gambia as timber is always in short supply. We have 200 posts in the ground as of today 11th February and we have funded the completion of this part. We are fundraising a further £3,000 to finish the fence with the fence rolls to be tacked to the posting. We have willing young hands all working toward this amazing project.

Cashew will provide a real potential toward absorbing Carbon and making a difference to our planet. Kerr Layen is ideally suited to the cultivation and there is a huge amount of land available. If you are working at your own Carbon Footprint and would like to reduce it in real terms then we can plant and fence trees on your behalf at just £5 per tree. You will join our sponsors list and be part of this project. Details from kerrlayen@gmail.com

Watch this space for more on work at Kerr Layen including the 2022/3 plans for the Farm where we will be creating a self sustaining production of Groundnut and Maize so that the village will have a self managed source of food in the future.
